Charles County VRS Recruitment & Retention

Requirements for Operational/Administrative membership are as follows:

  • Minimum age of 16
  • The ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • If attending high school, you must obtain a work permit.
  • If you have a valid Maryland driver’s license you must obtain a driving record through the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration.
  • Attendance at Wednesday night drills and business meetings.
  • Twenty-four (24) hours a month of in-station duty time.

To become a member, you do not need any previous experience. All training will be provided for free through the University of Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI).

Membership Benefits:

  • Free Emergency Medical Technician training through the University of Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI)
  • College credits for any class taken through MFRI
  • A $3,500 Maryland State tax deduction
  • Up to $3,000 a year in tuition reimbursement & assistance through the Charles County Volunteer Fire/EMS Association
  • Retirement plan through the Length of Service Awards Program (LOSAP)
  • Leadership Opportunities
