There is no charge for volunteers who have valid identification demonstrating affiliation with a Charles County Fire/Rescue Department.

Courses/Certifications Offered:

The courses offered are the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) Basic Life Support (BLS) Course and ASHI Basic First Aid Course.

ASHI BLS Course

In the ASHI BLS course, students learn how to recognize a life-threatening emergency, how to provide basic life support and what to do in case of an airway obstruction or choking.  The ASHI Basic Life Support, BLS for Healthcare Providers and Professional Rescuers is in compliance with the International Liaison Committee (ILCOR) 2015 Consensus on Science with Treatment Recommendations.  This class covers adult, child, and infant CPR, choking, AED, and use of a bag valve mask. Upon completion of the class, a two year card is issued.  Participants should check with their organization/employer prior to attending the course to ensure that this course meets individual requirements.

ASHI Basic First Aid Course

The ASHI Basic First Aid Course helps students develop basic first aid knowledge, skills and the confidence to respond. The program is an excellent choice for both the community and workplace setting.  This course is intended for individuals who are not healthcare providers or professional rescuers but desire, or are required, to be certified in basic emergency medical care.  Upon completion of the course, a two-year card is issued.

Participants who need certification for Child Care must also take the First Aid course. First Aid and and BLS/CPR must be taken together in order to meet child care regulations.

Student Requirements:

  • Participants must be 16 years of age or older*
  • Participants in the BLS course must complete the course plus successfully pass a written assessment
  • Participants in both courses must be present for the course in its entirety to receive certification.
  • Certification is at the discretion of the instructors.

*Participants younger than 16 years of age should e-mail cpr@ccvrs.org for information regarding courses for youth participants.

We look forward to seeing you at the Station for class!
