Charles County VRS Recruitment & Retention
Requirements for Operational/Administrative membership are as follows:
- Minimum age of 16
- The ability to pass a criminal background check.
- If attending high school, you must obtain a work permit.
- If you have a valid Maryland driver’s license you must obtain a driving record through the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration.
- Attendance at Wednesday night drills and business meetings.
- Twenty-four (24) hours a month of in-station duty time.
To become a member, you do not need any previous experience. All training will be provided for free through the University of Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI).
Membership Benefits:
- Free Emergency Medical Technician training through the University of Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI)
- College credits for any class taken through MFRI
- A $3,500 Maryland State tax deduction
- Up to $3,000 a year in tuition reimbursement & assistance through the Charles County Volunteer Fire/EMS Association
- Retirement plan through the Length of Service Awards Program (LOSAP)
